Frequently Asked Questions

If I come to the center, will I get a job?

We hope so. Whe you come to the center you put your name on a list of workers looking for jobs that day. Unless you have a special skill, workers are called in the order in which they sign in. So if there are as many jobs as there are workers, everyone will have work that day.

Why do I have to register?

We ask workers and employers to register for eachother's benefit. Employers feel safer knowing we know the names of the workers. And by getting the names of the employers, we can often help you negotiate if there is a problem on the job or if you are not paid by the employer. No names or inforamtion about the workers is provided to the government.

Does the Center set the wages for the job?

No. The Center suggests a range of wages to the employers if they ask, but it's up to the employer and the worker to agree on the wage. If you don't want to accept the job at the wages that are offered, you are not penalized and can wait for another job.

Does the Center charge a fee for getting me a job?

No. It's completely free of charge. The cost of the services are paid for by donations and grants.

Will I have to sit around a long time waiting for a job?

Hopefully not. But while you're waiting, you have the opportunity to attend on of our many English classes or have a little food (donations welcome).
