Facility
The DWC has raised sufficient funds to purchase a property located at 113 Escuela Avenue in Mountain View with the close of escrow scheduled for May 31, 2008. DWC has launched a capital campaign to acquire the property and complete the necessary remodeling and parking lot improvements.
The existing concrete block, single story 3,496 square foot warehouse will be remodeled to include new electrical and heating/ventilation systems, kitchen, bathrooms, patio area and roof. The exterior walls will be slurry coated and painted. DWC is negotiating with the City of Mountain View to lease the adjacent 6,098 square foot lot to accommodate additional parking.
Funding commitments have been secured from cities throughout the region including Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. DWC is working with the City of Mountain View to obtain the necessary Conditional Use Permit (CUP) approval by July 1, 2008. Based on that July approval, construction is slated to commence in November 1, 2008 with completion projected for March 2009.
Faclility FAQs
Why does the Day Worker Center (DWC) need to own a permanent facility?
Since its inception in 1996, DWC has had to relocate multiple times. DWC was without a home for six months from November 2001 to May 2002. The constant adaptation to limited facilities and disruption caused by frequent relocation has challenged the resources of the organization. Property ownership is critical to the long-term success of the Day Worker Center because it will provide a secure home and enable the Center to:
- Recruit more workers and employers
- Increase the hours of operation
- Save on rental costs
- Expand services
How can I donate to the capital campaign and will my donation be tax-deductible?

How does the DWC currently pay for operation of the Center and how does it plan to secure ongoing funding?
The DWC currently supports operations from a combination of foundation and private donor support, as well as receiving significant in-kind services from cooperating agencies. With a permanent location, the DWC will save on rental costs and look forward to stable, efficient operations in a facility suited to its needs and purposes.
